The Murrumbeena Tennis Club had an aging clubhouse that occupies a narrow strip of land adjacent to the tennis courts. The existing building was occupying space and not often used. Spectators would sit or stand out on the street rather than use the existing spaces the club had to offer. To change this dynamic we proposed a new arrangement of spaces that included an outdoor space, a covered outdoor space and an indoor all weather space.

Arranged in a row the spaces were connected by a viewing corridor which had inbuilt seats creating for the first time space for spectators to sit and watch a game adjacent to the court. The arrangement of spaces is connected by a singular long narrow roof that defines the extent of the club house. The material selected are simple sheet material in a colour similar to the tennis surface with a gentle profile. The resulting spaces add a new energy to the club and engage both spectators and players in tennis culture that is both more inclusive and dynamic.
